The House
House of our hearts,
always.
For nearly a century, The House at 81 College Avenue has been more than just a building — it’s been the heart of the Beta Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Tau Omega. Within these walls, generations of young men have found leadership, brotherhood, and memories that last a lifetime. As we celebrate our history and look to the future, here’s what makes The House so special:
-
Built in 1932 and designed by Crowell and Lancaster, a cornerstone of our chapter’s legacy.
-
A gathering place for countless chapter meetings, philanthropy events, and lifelong friendships.
-
Home to a proud tradition of academic achievement, service, and leadership.
-
A living tribute to brothers who served in World War II, with memorials preserved inside.
-
The heart of Beta Upsilon — past, present, and future.

The House has evolved alongside its members, adapting to meet new needs while preserving its historic character. From the original 1932 design to thoughtful updates over the decades, each space tells a story of growth, tradition, and brotherhood. Here’s a glimpse at how the House has changed over time:
-
1950s: Basement remodeled to add a gathering space, weight room, and chapter room.
-
1960s: Living room updated to create a larger, more open common space.
-
1988: Main second-floor bathroom remodeled with tiled showers and updated fixtures.
-
1990s: Kitchen, dining room, and third floor remodeled; “false walls” added upstairs to create additional bedrooms.
-
2017: Front porch foundation repaired and rebuilt with concrete mimicking original brickwork.
